Diocesan Messenger Archives
Past issues of the Messenger:
An annual report of donors was included in the print version of this Messenger. Our wrap-up after Diocesan Convention contains photos, highlights from the bishop's address, news about resolutions and a recap of workshops. A feature about St. Michael's, Carlsbad fleshed out our theme of Fearless Love. An update on the Rebuild Our Church in Haiti campaign, as well as lots of news about interesting people in our diocese round out this issue.
Why wait? This issue we explore the season of Advent with Gertrud Nelson, author, illustrator and expert storyteller. We unpack the meaning of waiting and hoping during this holy season. St. Andrew's by-the-Sea shows us a little bit of the kingdom in its ministry to homeless people. Information about the diocesan-wide service project, Operation Diaper Drop, as well as Episcopal Night at The Nutcracker, and Advent and Christmas services.
The theme is reaching out beyond our borders. We highlighted the global work of our congregations: a Kenyan Kids program, a Tanzania meals program, etc., as well as the work of our diocese: a new micro-lending program in Tijuana, and of our whole Episcopal Church: a fundraising program to rebuild the Diocese of Haiti. Bishop Mathes also shares a bit about his sabbatical in his quarterly letter.
This issue focuses on connectivity among our 48 congregations around the diocese. Stories include the Episcopal Church Center in Ocean Beach, the Interfaith Shelter at St. Andrew's, the Refugee Gala at Good Samaritan, a brief window into St. Alban's, El Cajon and more.
