Bishop's Appeal
October 27, 2009
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
I invite you to join me in accomplishing the mission of our diocese to share the love of Jesus Christ through our actions and to reconcile all to God and each other.
We attend church on Sundays to feed our spirits and connect with one another. The beauty and mysticism of the Eucharist nourishes us on a deep level, so profound it is beyond our comprehension. We are challenged by the readings and teachings while we are comforted by the prayers. As we leave, we are called to live out the message and gospel of Jesus Christ by being his hands and feet in the world.
This can be especially challenging during times of upheaval and distress. Our tendency is to turn inward and succor our wounds. By belonging to an Episcopal congregation, that tendency is challenged as the weekly admonition to "go and serve the world" draws us out of ourselves and prods us, ever so gently, into the world as Christ's servants.
As we turn outward and look at the world around us we begin to appreciate the blessings we have been given and we understand more deeply the call to serve the world in Jesus' name.
When you donate to this appeal, you join with fellow Christians throughout our diocese in sharing the love of Jesus Christ and ministering to those most in need. As you make your gift, consider how your contribution enables us to do more of what Jesus calls us to do. 100% of all donations support the life-giving mission of our diocese.
Please respond by Thanksgiving Day so that we can continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus this Christmas season and all year long.
Thank you for contributing to our shared vision of Christ's peace and love emanating from our churches into the waiting world beyond.
Faithfully,
