A New Year's Message from Our Bishop
January 13, 2010
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Blessings to you in this New Year! As the days lengthen and we move into the season of Epiphany, we also move towards our diocesan convention, February 12-13 at First United Methodist Church in Mission Valley. I hope that you will help us assure that this year's convention is experienced by the greatest number of people. With Brian McLaren speaking both Friday night and Saturday morning, it will be a rich experience.
Many of you have provided me with nominations for the Servant Ministry Award. If you have not yet done so, please make those nominations as soon as possible. This is a great way for you to say "thank you" to a servant in your congregation and encourage others to make a similar witness. (Nomination Form)
I want to also encourage you to register your delegates as soon as possible. This will assist my office in preparations for convention. And please, encourage non-delegates to attend the gala dinner on Friday, February 12 when the Bishop's Cross and the Servant Ministry Awards will be presented. (Register Here)
I look forward to seeing you at our convention, our family reunion. Thank you for your gift of companionship in ministry.
Faithfully,

The Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes
Fourth Bishop of San Diego
