Camp Stevens

Camp Stevens' Mission

The Mission of Camp Stevens is to help individuals of all ages deepen their sense of reverence and respect for themselves, and their fellow human beings, the creation, and God. It also seeks to be a peaceful 'place apart' for nurturing, planning, reflection, exchange of ideas, and sharing in Christian community. In its beautiful, unspoiled setting, Camp Stevens serves as a point of contact between human beings and the natural world. It seeks to serve as a model of ecological responsibility and to help individuals and groups reclaim an active stewardship of God's creation. It will also serve as a resource center to stimulate better environmental stewardship throughout the Dioceses of Los Angeles and San Diego and beyond.

Programs

The camp's programs, set in a natural place apart from the pressures of everyday life, help shape the moral character of the participants, instilling positive community values, integrity and strength of character. Our week-long summer camp sessions help children and teenagers develop greater self-esteem and acquire lifelong skills for living harmoniously with others from diverse backgrounds, while learning to be responsible caretakers of our fragile ecosystem. A week at Camp Stevens helps children take charge of their lives and offers critical reinforcement for youth involved in delinquency prevention programs in their schools and/or communities.

Monday through Friday Outdoor Education programs for parish day schools offer students the opportunity to explore the fascinating 260 acres of woods, meadows at streams of Camp Stevens. Under the guidance of our trained counselors they discover the fundamental principles of ecology and learn how to become responsible stewards of God's magnificent creation.

Camp Stevens is also designed to be a community retreat center where parish and other groups come away from the bustle and distractions of urban life to deepen relationships with one another. The serene, natural setting brings welcome refreshment of spirit, mind and body, re-energizing participants for their common mission. Camp Stevens also serves as the Stewardship of All Creation Center for the Dioceses of Los Angeles and San Diego. We offer a variety of programs for adults and families to foster responsible stewardship and provide resources to help individuals and congregations move toward living with greater respect for God's creation.
