Alpha
The Alpha course is a course on the basics of the Christian faith.
Organized as a series of sessions over ten weeks, the meeting begins with a meal, followed by a talk and small group discussion.
Topics include:
- Christianity: Boring, Untrue and Irrelevant?
- Why did Jesus die?
- Why and how should I read the Bible?
- Why and how should I pray?
- How can I make the most of the rest of my Life?*
The content frequently refers to C. S. Lewis and John Stott.
Education For Ministry
Education for Ministry, affectionately known as EFM, is a program of theological education-at-a-distance of the School of Theology of the University of the South.
Students sign up one year at a time for this four-year program. It covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy and theology.
Students meet regularly, usually once a week, in seminars under the guidance of trained mentors.
The program grants a certificate at the completion of the four years and 18 Continuing Education Units for each year's work.
Kerygma
Those responsible for developing Kerygma study resources have worked to avoid unwarranted theological presuppositions.
The theological guidelines for Kerygma maintain that:
- the best resource for Bible study is the Bible,
- an awareness of the full scope of the Biblical story provides needed balance for building faith,
- scripture should be allowed to speak for itself. If the Bible is understood on its own terms, it will convey its own truth, and
- biblical understanding should be a prelude to theological belief. The Bible should inform theology, not theology the Bible.
